Google is working to make Android a better platform for tablets, and that has spilled over to other developers. Recently, TikTok released a landscape version of its app, and Google is promoting it on the Play Store, according to 9To5Google.
TikTok was the king of vertically scrolling videos for a while, but that made tablet use problematic. It’s impractical to use a large tablet in landscape mode just to watch your daily dose of TikTok content. That’s why the company recently released a landscape version of the app. This allows people to comfortably watch their “Toks” using tablets.
Google advertises horizontal TikTok in the Play Store
Since TikTok is one of the most popular apps in the universe right now, it makes sense that Google is pushing a landscape version on the Play Store. When you open the Play Store, you’ll see a banner that stretches across the top letting you know that you can use TikTok on your tablet.
We see the text “Flip the tablet for TikTok” at the top with a nice graphic. You can download the app today and start watching videos on your tablet.
TikTok in landscape mode, as you can imagine, makes much better use of horizontal orientation. On the far left of the screen you will see yours Home, Friends, Inboxand Profile buttons arranged vertically.
In addition, you will see the video you are watching. The video itself looks just like it does on the phone. You will see Tracking and For you tabs on top with music info on the bottom. You’ll still see the creator’s profile on the right side of the video along with likes, comments, saves and shares on the right side of the video.
At the far right of the screen, you’ll see a feed of comments on the video. This allows you to watch your videos in a new way while maintaining the basic experience.
