The Gemini app is on its way to Android tablets

A few weeks ago, Google released the Gemini app for Android phones. This not only brought Gemini’s AI capabilities to small screens, but also started the transition from Google Assistant to Gemini. However, many users were disappointed because the Gemini app was not compatible with Android tablets. This is about to change as a new report suggests that the Gemini app will be coming to tablets at some point.

For now, we believe that Google is planning to replace Google Assistant with Gemini. Once launched, the app didn’t do much. However, we have seen that Gemini can perform a few limited voice assistant functions. Also, you can summon Gemini on any screen on your device using a hotword.

All of this would be fine if the company had actually properly implemented Gemini into the software before launching it as an assistant. There are still a few features Gemini can’t do, making it a half-assed assistant compared to Google Assistant. At this point, we don’t know when Google plans to officially stop Google Assistant.

The Gemini app is coming to tablets soon

No one doubted that Google would finally bring the Gemini app to tablets. Either way, we’re still technically dealing with leaks and you should take it with caution. 9To5Google did an APK analysis of Google’s app version 15.12 and found some code that points to its distribution on tablets. This can also be present in the Gemini app version 1.0.618909562. In particular, in-depth research has determined that it will soon make its way to the Pixel Tablet (Review).

The fact that it will be the first to appear on a pixel tablet is not surprising, since this is Google’s first tablet. Interestingly, it appears that both Gemini and Google Assistant will work simultaneously on tablets. At the moment, Gemini is still not a true replacement for Google Assistant, so many people who use the Gemini app will still use the Assistant by default.

For some reason, Gemini says it will take precedence over Google Assistant when a hot word is spoken. But according to the report, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Google Assistant will appear instead of Gemini.

Either way, it’s still nice to see that Google Gemini will make its way to Android tablets. It will only make it much more accessible.
