Sonos has reportedly refreshed its app on Android and iOS (according to The Verge ), and the update will reportedly drop very soon, on May 7, according to those familiar with the plans. And it sounds like a pretty big update, bringing a customizable home screen along with easier setup for the company’s products, a complaint we’ve even seen with Arca. Ideally, speaker connections will be improved, though it sounds like this all depends on the company not running into any issues during testing ahead of the rumored May 7 release date.
Sonos Arc review: More than you need, exactly what you want
Arc is the best soundbar for large rooms where money is not important
For now, it sounds like the bottom bar of the existing app will be removed, with the new design focused more around a single home screen that contains everything you need. Taking a page from the Play Store design, carousels containing your playlists will take center stage, and hardware and software settings are moved to the “Your System” section.
While these are all just rumors, Bloomberg hinted at the new app back in February, so it’s likely to come despite the tentative date. We even have a few leaked screenshots (above and below), so it seems very likely that this update is well on its way.
Sonos has a 3.9 rating on the Google Play Store, which isn’t fantastic, but it’s not terrible either. Still, it’s not one of the best apps on Android, and as with most apps, users have plenty of complaints to share, so the redesign will certainly be welcomed by many. Then there are those who will be angry that things have changed, which is why it is impossible to please everyone. Still, it’s in Sonos’ best interest to make a new design, so hopefully when the update drops we’ll finally see support for services like Chomecast and better device control, the two primary gripes with the existing app.
