One of the most touted features of the iPhone was getting updates for over six years. That advantage no longer stands. That’s because the latest phones from Google and Samsung will receive updates for seven years. And if the now-deleted post is any guide, Samsung has expanded support even further.
The Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition will receive support for eight years
That’s according to a post on LinkedIn, a Samsung-focused outlet SamMobile spotted. A Samsung executive wrote that the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition will receive more updates than the Galaxy S24. The device will get eight versions of the operating system and will also receive security patches for eight years. This is valid for updates until 2032.
A LinkedIn post by a Samsung executive, which has since been deleted, said the Galaxy Tab Active 5 enterprise edition will be supported for eight years
Post is no more on the career-focused social media platform. That doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung has gone back on its word.
Samsung produces business devices for professionals. They are advertised as more robust than boards intended for standards.
Perhaps to bolster their image of reliable, long-lasting devices, there have been instances in the past where Samsung has promised to provide more updates to business devices than was standard practice for it at the time.
For example, a few years ago, when flagships received four years of security updates, enterprise versions were promised five.
The Galaxy S24 is the first Samsung device to be guaranteed seven years of updates. The phone’s AI features have been praised for its popularity, but the stellar software policy also deserves recognition. This could be one of the reasons why Samsung is adding another year of support for newer devices.
Since the post has been deleted, there’s no way to tell if the Tab Active 5 enterprise edition will get eight years of support. We also can’t say if this will be Samsung’s new policy for all of its devices.
It doesn’t seem likely though. That’s because the announcement also said that the new Galaxy XCover 7 will receive seven years of updates.
Anyway, the business edition of the Galaxy Tab Active 5 is currently only semi-official. There’s only one post on LinkedIn that still mentions it, and the company website doesn’t mention it.
Everything should become clearer when it is properly published.
