Apple issued iOS 17.4 March 5, and the update included new features like Podcast transcripts and Apple Cash virtual card numbers. When Apple issued iOS 17 in September, the company added a new feature to your iPhone A photo application that allows you to tag and add pets to the “People and Pets” album; previously titled “People” album.
According to a Pew Research Center survey, 97% of pet owners consider their pets part of the family, and Apple agrees. The company wrote online that “cats and dogs … are also part of your family.” (As a lifelong dog owner, I couldn’t agree more.)
Here’s how to tag your pets in the new People & Pets album.
Tag your pets in the People & Pets album
1. Open yours Photos application
2. Touch Albums.
3. Touch People and pets album.
4. Tap your pet’s picture.
5. Touch Add a name to enter your pet’s name.
6. Touch Following.
Your phone may ask for it Review photos of your pet to ensure they are correctly identified. Once you’ve viewed your pet’s photos, you can add them to your favorites by touching the heart next to your pet’s picture in the People and pets album. Your pet should now appear at the top of the album.
Now your iPhone with iOS 17 should recognize your pet and add their pictures to the People and pets on its own.
Your iPhone is not perfect and could misidentify your pet. If it does, here’s how to untag your pet from a photo.
1. Open yours Photos application
2. Touch Albums.
3. Touch People and pets album.
4. Touch your pet.
5. Long press a misidentified photo of your pet.
6. Touch It is not [Your Pet’s Name].
Misidentified photos will be removed from the album, leaving only the cutest, best photos of your pet.
