Google is bringing new AI-enabled features to Android phones

With Android 14, Google introduced several personalization features to improve the user experience on phones. It now brings more features to improve productivity.

Android Auto, which enables seamless connection between Android phone and car, gets an extra dose of artificial intelligence (AI). After updating to the new version, the Android Auto app will be able to automatically condense long messages or busy group conversations while the owner is driving.

It will also be able to suggest relevant responses and actions, so he/she can simply tap once to send a message, share an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) or initiate a call.

After bringing the Gemini AI bot to the Search app, Google is ready to introduce generative AI bot support to the Messages app on Android phones.

Users will be able to chat with Gemini to write messages, brainstorm ideas, plan events or just have a fun conversation without leaving the Messages app. It will initially be available to select users with Pixel 6 and later Pixel phones, Pixel Fold, Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, 24 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold series phones.

Google is bringing a new ‘image caption’ accessibility feature to the Lookout app. This will help visually impaired people get AI-generated voice descriptions of photos on websites or messaging apps or images in front of them.

Even the Lens app gets a similar accessibility feature – ‘TalkBack’ to describe places like an ATM, restaurant or hotel. The user just has to point the phone’s camera at a nearby location and TalkBack will read the location’s information out loud — such as opening hours, ratings or directions to get there.

In the Google Docs app, users will now be able to add handwritten notes from their Android phone or tablet using their finger or any compatible stylus. The application supports different pen colors and highlighters. In the future, reviewing documents and providing feedback on Google Docs will become fast, flexible and easy.

Another new value-added feature coming to Android phones is Health Connect. It will be a one-stop hub for getting all your health and activity data like exercise, steps, calories burned, floors climbed and distance delivered from all third-party apps installed on your phone and smartwatch. Initially, Fitbit, AllTrails, Oura Ring and MyFitnessPal will support the Health Connect feature.

More third-party fitness and health apps will soon support Google Health Connect.
