Google Calendar for iPhone adds lock screen widgets

Google has updated its Calendar app on iPhone and iPad with a trio of handy lock screen widgets.

“What’s next” to “View your upcoming events and tasks” are available in three configurations. There is a circular widget that only records the time and a rectangular 2×1 option that includes the duration and title. You can also see that information in the widget area that appears above the time. A tap opens the Calendar events page, while Google will notice when there are no events.

On the iOS home screen, Google Calendar already offers “What’s next” in 1×1 and 2×1 confirmations, as well as a useful “What’s next with a month view.”

This joins lock screen widgets for other Workspace apps on iOS, including Drive and Gmail. Other Google apps that support this feature include Chrome, Google Search, Maps, News, Translate and YouTube Music.

These lock screen widgets are rolling out today with version 24.7.0 of Google Calendar, though we had to restart our iPhone before they fully appeared.
