THERE are tons of hidden tricks in your iPhone’s Camera and Photos app, including an easy way to make your own GIFs.
GIFs are animated images that can be shared in iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook messenger.
All three apps have a GIF search feature so you can choose from a library of animations.
But few iPhone owners know that they can actually make their own, with their own photos.
Live Photos: Create a GIF
To make a GIF, you’ll need the ability to take Live Photos, a feature Apple introduced in 2015.
You’ll know if you’re able to take Live Photos if there’s a circle icon in the top right of the screen when you’re inside the camera app.
To make a GIF – make other changes to Live Photos – follow these steps:
- First, make sure Live Photos is turned on – the circle icon in the top right corner won’t have a line through it when it’s enabled.
- Take a live photo.
- In the top left corner of the photo you should see a ‘LIVE’ icon with a drop down arrow.
- Click on the icon and a drop-down menu will open.
- From here you can choose a range of motion picture options for your Live snap, including loop, bounce and long exposure.
- You can even click Live Off to make it a still image.
- Press Loop to convert Live Photo to GIF.
