Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion, Dawntrail, arrives this summer along with the game’s first graphical update. As such, Square Enix has released new benchmark software to allow PC gamers to test how well their machines will handle these new features while still having a slight edge on Dawntrail.
Available as a free download for Windows, the benchmark software uses playable characters and real maps to assign performance scores to your computer. This will provide a glimpse of the new graphics update, which beautifies the game with improved textures, shadows, material quality and other elements. You can download the benchmark here.
The benchmark includes a character creator for players to craft a new hero before Dawntrail launches. It also includes access to the new female Hrothgar race. Existing characters can also be imported into the benchmark, and the appearance data of those characters can be imported into the full edition of Dawntrail on Windows.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is out on July 2nd. You can learn more about the expansion here. The game is currently having a crossover event with Final Fantasy XVI that runs until May 8th
