Epic games plans to launch mobile online stores for iPhone and Android users later this year.
The company, which makes games such as Fortnite, plans to take a 12% commission on its sales on those platforms, it said on Wednesday (March 20th). report from Bloomberg, citing company officials speaking at a developer conference. Apple and Google charge a 30% commission for their respective app stores.
Epic Games is in a lawsuit with Apple over the tech giant’s App Store practices.
The dispute began in 2020, and was led by a disagreement around Apple’s 30% commissions, which led to a lawsuit from Epic.
Earlier this month, Apple blocked a game developer from setting up a developer account, effectively blocking Epic Games from its App Store, citing what it said were Epic’s past contractual violations and ongoing legal disputes, PYMNTS reported.
Two days later, Apple reversed the decision due to pressure from EU regulators and enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), an antitrust law aimed at fostering competition by allowing third-party app stores.
