Cloudflare has announced the release of three new General Availability (GA) products aimed at making it easier for development teams to develop the entire suite.
The first release is a serverless SQL database D1. With this GA release, the platform also gets a number of requested features from the beta, such as support for 10GB databases, new data export functionality, and improved query debugging.
“Your core database is one of the most critical parts of your infrastructure. It has to be ultra reliable. It cannot lose data. It should be measured. And so over the past year, we’ve been hard at work putting the pieces in place to make sure D1 is ready for production,” wrote Rita Kozlov and Matt Silverlock, senior product directors at Cloudflare. blog post.
Other features planned for future releases include global read replication, larger databases, more time travel capabilities for branching databases, and new APIs for querying and creating databases.
Cloudflare has also confirmed that with this general release it will keep the free option for D1, which allows for 5 million rows per day read, 100,000 writes per day and 5 GB of storage. The paid plan costs $5 per month for the first 25 billion lines read, 50 million lines written, and 5 GB of storage. Each additional million rows will cost $0.001 to read and $1 to write, and each additional GB of storage will cost an additional $0.75.
Then the company announced Hyperdrivewhich allows users to transform regional databases into globally distributed databases.
“If you haven’t figured out what Hyperdrive is, it’s designed to make the centralized databases you already have feel like they’re global. We use our global network to get faster routes to your database, keep connection pools ready, and cache your most frequently run queries as close to users as possible,” Kozlov and Silverlock wrote.
Over the next few months, Cloudflare plans to add new features to Hyperdrive, including support for MySQL, the ability to connect to databases within private networks, and greater configurability of rollback and caching strategies. Hyperdrive will be free for anyone with a paid Workers package.
And finally, the company announced Workers Analytics Enginewhich allows developers to add analytics capabilities to their products.
“We use it ourselves to observe the correctness of our own services, collect data on the use of billing products and answer questions about the usage patterns of certain users. At least one data point is written to this system for almost every request to the Cloudflare network. The Workers Analytics Engine allows you to build your own custom analytics using the same infrastructure, while we handle the heavy lifting for you,” Kozlov and Silverlock wrote.
In addition to releasing these three products as GA, the company also announced two new features for its tails product, which is currently still in open beta. Users can now pull messages from a queue and can delay messages, which can be useful in situations where the underlying infrastructure has speed limits.
Cloudflare says it will also increase bandwidth in order as it continues to work to prepare the queue for GA over the next few months.
