Email is one of the oldest and most important forms of online communication. It’s a service that many of us use every day. Tons of email services and email apps follow them. Some may only have one Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo account. Their apps will give you the best experience. However, most people have email applications from multiple providers and want something that can bring them all together in one place. If you’re looking for something new, here are the best email apps for Android. The second half of the decade was tough for email clients as some of the best (like Inbox by Gmail and Astro) went down in flames. We will miss him very much.
We would also like to officially mention Hey (link to Google Play). It’s an exciting and fun email app, but it gives you a new and expensive email address, so it’s hard to list. It has some decent features, so check it out if you want another option.
Best email apps for Android
Blue Mail is one of the most popular email applications. It supports a variety of clients, including Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Office 365, and almost any other POP3, IMAP, or Exchange client. The app has a number of notification settings for each of your email accounts, and also comes with some fun stuff like Android Wear support, customizable menus, and even a dark theme. It also has some intelligent features if you want them. It’s powerful and completely free. There is a potential privacy issue since Blue Mail uses its own servers, but most likely they won’t mind.
Cleanfox is not an email client, but a useful application for email users. It helps you unsubscribe from probably many things that you have somehow subscribed to. You connect your email accounts to the app, which goes through and finds all your subscriptions. It then unsubscribes you from them if you wish. It can also delete old emails from those subscriptions and help you manage things in other ways. It is a free app and not difficult to use. Most of the complaints are about bugs, which there are, but Cleanfox does what it can and it works for most.
Gmail is an inexpensive choice for email applications. It comes pre-installed on most Android devices, so you probably already have it. The app supports multiple inbox settings, multiple accounts and more. It also supports most email services, including Yahoo, Microsoft Outlook and others. It also supports unified inbox, material design and more. The team also added a bunch of features to Inbox by Google before that client was removed. It’s a great option for most people.

Microsoft Outlook is a surprisingly decent email application. It has a simple user interface, features that are easy to configure, and a dark mode if you like it. It also supports multiple email providers such as Gmail, Yahoo and others. There are also some Outlook-specific features, including a Focused Inbox feature to ignore spam and an integrated calendar. There is also the expected integration with other Microsoft Office products. It’s free to use, and with so many complex email apps out there, this one is relatively simple and lightweight.

Nine is one of the better email apps if you’re concerned about security and use Outlook. It does not boast any server or cloud features. The application connects you to email services. On top of that, it has support for Exchange ActiveSync, which is to be expected for any application that supports Exchange. You have a variety of options, including choosing the folders you want to sync and support for Wear OS. It’s relatively expensive as email clients go, and has a few bugs here and there. However, it is more intended for business users.

ProtonMail is a great email client for people who care about security. The app boasts end-to-end email encryption. This means that the only two people who can read your email are you and the person you are emailing to. The app also boasts support for OpenPGP, self-destructing emails (where supported), and the usual stuff like tags and organizational features. This one stores the email on the server. However, that server is completely encrypted and no one can read them, not even ProtonMail. Some email features require a monthly subscription that includes all Proton Mail features.
Honest email

Spark Email underwent a pretty significant overhaul in 2022. In addition to a new user interface and features, the service introduced a subscription service with more power-oriented features. You can still use the free version and get most of the features, so we’re leaving it on the list for now. The app is best known for its unique inbox with intelligent sorting, so you only see the emails that matter. It works well, which is good because it’s a central feature. Some other features include blocking senders, turning off email threads you’re not interested in, and more. There is also a teams feature if you are looking at this for business use. It’s a serviceable option, although its recent redesign has angered some users over the subscription fee.
Temp Mail is a neat idea for an email app. It allows the user to create a temporary, disposable email address for one or two uses. You can create it to receive files from another person, or create it to sign up for something that would send you spam. Does not require registration; your email is disposed of when you’re done. It also supports multiple languages and QR code support; you can create custom email names. This is a pretty good bridge between the two in a world where spam and privacy matter.

TypeApp Email is a fairly common email client. It does everything you would expect. This includes support for most email services, unified inbox, push notifications, rich text email, wireless printing support and other valuable features. You also get support for Wear OS, dark mode, themes and other customization features. It certainly won’t hit your head. However, it’s a good, simple email app that does what it says it does. We also liked the Material Design user interface in our testing and the relatively simple method of switching accounts. It reminds us a lot of Blue Mail in terms of user interface. Anyway, it’s good; it’s just not exciting.

The thing is, most third-party email apps work just fine. However, the advantage is to just use a single application for your email service. We’ve listed Gmail above because it comes pre-installed on most devices anyway. However, others like Yahoo Mail do not. They connect directly to the service and can do things that third-party clients simply can’t. For example, Yahoo Mail includes features such as Travel View, more detailed notification options, and themes. If you only have one email and it’s not a Gmail account, consider using the official app to get the most out of it.
