Unlucky iPhone users, Android users have had the advantage of this feature for years.

Apple’s latest iOS update is reportedly set to introduce a feature that Android users have had access to for years.

Gen Z Android owners may claim they’re often mocked for not having an iPhone, but they could now be the ones laughing as Apple’s latest software update is reportedly following in the competition’s footsteps.

Look, if you have Android or Apple, who really cares?

But if you’re sitting here right now with an iPhone in hand and want to get your head around what some Android users might be teasing you about when you get the latest iOS update, then you’ve come to the right place.

The news was first reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his newsletter Inclusion March 25.

Gurman said Apple’s iOS 18 update will allow phones to have a more ‘customizable’ home screen page.

But what does this really mean?

Well, at this point in time, you can customize your home screen, but only by dragging and dropping apps in an invisible grid pattern.

Oh and adding a few larger widgets here and there if you really want to go outside the box – or the grid, so to speak.

But if you try to place one app with a space in between or on a completely different line, the app will quickly jump back to where the next available space is in the line and lock it firmly back into the invisible grid.

Granted, you can go to the store and download certain apps which means you can customize your phone to your liking and override some of Apple’s presets, however, Android users don’t have to mess with this extra app and with the iOS 18 update, Apple users might not have to for a long time.

Android users have actually had an advantage for several years now with this feature.

Sources told MacRumors that customization options will grow with the latest update, meaning you’ll reportedly be able to move your apps around and place them spaced apart if you like, or even in a row if you want to really push the boat out.

Other iOS 18 features are rumored to include new AI functionality for Siri, updates to Apple Maps, and messaging.

It has been reported that Apple will announce the latest iOS in June later this year at The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) – an information technology conference held annually by Apple Inc.

UNILAD has contacted Apple for comment.
