Apple denies Epic Games’ claim that it is violating the court order

Apple accuses Epic Games of trying to “micromanage” its business.

In a recent lawsuit, Apple asked a judge to reject Epic’s request to declare the company in contempt for what it says is a violation of the 2021 ban related to Apple’s App Store practices. Apple appealed the decision.

Apple says Epic’s request for an injunction is an attempt by the company to “micromanage Apple’s business operations in a way that would increase Epic’s profitability,” Reuters reports.

Apple submitted its filing to US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland. She presided over Epic’s lawsuit against Apple in 2020, which alleged that the company violated antitrust laws by controlling how users download and pay for apps.

Apple claims that Epic is trying to make its “tools and technologies available to developers for free.” It also said that “Apple’s development and implementation of its compliance framework was undertaken in good faith.”

In 2021, the court primarily ruled in favor of Apple; however, he ordered the company to allow users to use alternative payment methods for digital goods. Although Apple has since allowed this, Epic’s current problem is that Apple takes a 27% cut of many of those purchases.

Last month, Apple announced plans to allow downloads of iOS apps from third-party websites in the EU to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), for a fee.
