Battery-related settings in Android 14 QPR2 continue with Pixel devices redesigning the app’s battery consumption in Settings.
On the QPR1, going to the app menu App Info > App Battery Usage will give you three options right away:
- Unlimited: Allow unlimited background battery usage. It can use more battery.
- Optimized: Optimize based on your usage. Recommended for most applications.
- Limited: Limit battery consumption in the background. The application may not work as expected. Notifications may be delayed.
With Android 14 QPR2, the page has been reorganized with the “Battery Usage Management” section home to a toggle switch for “Allow background usage: Enable for real-time updates, disable to save battery.”
QPR1 (1) vs QPR2 (2-3)
This UI could be a bit simpler as it’s not obvious that you can tap the area to the left of the toggle for more settings. Again, there’s a high-level “Allow Background Usage” toggle, which should be the equivalent of Limited, while below that you’ll find Optimized and Unlimited.
In short, there are no changes in functionality, just a new user interface that now spans two pages. This change is also in effect for Android 14 QPR3 Beta and Android 15 Developer Preview. It joins other app info tweaks like a new force stop icon and the package name after the version number at the bottom.
