An easy way to create 360° interactions in e-learning

360 AI images

There are a lot of really cool things you can do with 360° images in eLearning. You can see some examples here.

However, I’ve talked to a lot of people and the biggest challenge for them is getting usable images.

In most cases, 360° image interactions are exploratory and based on real-world context. In this case stock images do not work. This requires the author of the course to have a camera or some other means of creating images. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t create interaction using original 360 images.

This is a cool site that creates 360° images using AI. The steps are simple:

  • Add a query and the page will generate images.
  • Download the image.
  • Insert into your course.
  • Build interaction.

Here is a simple example where I used AI generated images and inserted them into Storyline 360.

Working with AI

Some key tips for working with artificial intelligence:

  • Power is in speed. There is a lot of trial and error in figuring out how to get the right images. Although now AI can also help you create the right queries for your images.
  • Create a query and then use it to create free spaces. In the examples below, I have kept the query simple: a modern business office. The first image produced a very clear black and white office.

  • I wanted similar looking rooms that can look like they are part of the same office so I added “modern business office” in other words like meeting room and cafeteria. Surprisingly, as you can see in the pictures below, the rooms are very similar and usable. As a rule, the instructions must be more descriptive.

  • Sometimes you can get artifacts in 360° images. You’ll notice that my picture below has nonsensical text on the wall. They can be edited in the image editor. Here’s a guide that explains some of the options.

If you need to create 360° images for an eLearning interaction, this is a great place to explore. I hope it helps.
