ANDROID users have warned of a new type of malware called XLoader.
Malware is a malicious file or code that can infect your phone or computer.
And XLoader has been discovered to steal user data by disguising itself as Google Chrome, experts say.
The malware has so far been detected in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
HOW DOES MALWARE WORK?
NewsBytes reported that the malware is being distributed via SMS messages.
The texts contain a shortened URL link that, when clicked, installs malware on the user’s device.
Once users give the malware permission to access their phones, it can steal photos, messages, contacts and IMEI numbers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Fortunately, Android devices with Google Play Protect are protected against this type of malware.
Play Protect should be enabled by default, but in case you don’t have it, here’s how to get it.
The app is available for free download from the Google Play store if it is not automatically downloaded to your device.
