Adobe has released the new Adobe Express app for Android and iOS in beta testing. The new app brings together Adobe’s cutting-edge features and Firefly AI’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for the first time on a mobile platform. The company announced that while the app is in beta, users will be able to download and install it for free. Some of the premium features will also be available for free. However, according to the report, the generative AI features will require Adobe’s generative credits.
For the uninitiated, Adobe Express is a cloud-based mobile content creation platform that has gone through multiple name changes and iterations since 2015 and finally relaunched with its current name in 2021. This new app for Android and iOS combines the features of Firefly AI and premium image editing features and offers them through a single interface. In addition, the company has also added co-editing, viewing and commenting capabilities to the app, meaning that users working on different smartphones can work on a project at the same time. Mobile and desktop users will also be able to collaborate on the same project.
In terms of features, Adobe offers premium photo and video editing features such as free background removal and one-click resizing while the app is in beta testing. However, the generative AI features won’t be free, according to a report by The Verge. Using Firefly-powered features such as generative fill and text-to-image conversion will require Adobe generative credits. They generally require a paid subscription, but beta users get 25 credits per month.
Other features include AI text styling, video templates, real-time subtitle generation in over 100 languages, 4K video support, access to Adobe fonts, stock videos, music tracks, content scheduler and more. To ensure content created and edited through its AI tools is safe for commercial use, Firefly AI follows the guidelines of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), an open source technology for tagging AI-generated content.
The new Adobe Express mobile app in beta is available for free on Android and iOS devices. Android users can download the beta app from the Google Play Store. Due to Apple’s limitations on the number of beta users, iOS users can join the waiting list here, and Adobe will guide selected participants through the process.
