ISLE OF PALMS, SC (WCBD) — The president and CEO of a Charleston-based computer software corporation was arrested Friday for driving under the influence.
Michael Gianoni, CEO of Blackbaud, was arrested and charged with first-degree DUI early Friday morning.
An incident report from the Isle of Palms Police Department states that an officer observed a Mercedes SUV with its high beams on while passing, cross the fog line and fail to signal a lane change at the IOP connector.
The officer conducted a traffic stop, and when he approached the SUV, he smelled an “overwhelming odor” of alcohol coming from the breath of the driver, identified as Gianoni.
After a series of field sobriety tests, the officer determined that Gianoni was “materially and significantly impaired” and was placed in custody.
Gianoni was released on $992 bail and is expected in court on April 24.
The Blackbaud website describes the company as “the world’s leading cloud software company powering social good.” Blackbaud is estimated to generate more than $1 billion in revenue.
The corporation is headquartered on Daniel Island and operates in Asia, Australia, Europe and Latin America, according to its website.
