Windows 11 is Microsoft’s latest PC OS, and the company regularly improves the experience with user interface tweaks and new features. In a recent move, the company is reportedly rolling out a new grid layout for users who explore apps via the ‘All Apps’ option in the Start menu. In the current view, applications appear in the specified format.
Spotted by Reddit user @PhantomOcean3, the option could make the process of accessing installed apps on a computer easier. In the video, the icons are arranged in alphabetical order with six applications in one row. The new update may enable better screen usage in All Apps and limit scrolling for some use cases.

According to a Windows report, the feature is available in beta and looks similar to the Windows 10X Start menu. Applications can be accessed easily thanks to larger icons and less scrolling. However, the feature’s limitation is its complicated readability and appearance retention in case you frequently uninstall and reinstall apps.
Microsoft is experimenting with an updated Start menu All apps list, which displays apps in a grid of icons instead of a vertical list

This feature also looks similar to the app drawer that most smartphone users have on their smartphones. In addition, the new look of the Start menu resembles the Microsoft Launcher on Android. For context, the company dropped horizontal live icon tiles in Windows 11 for added simplicity. According to Windows Latest, the option is available in beta version ‘22635.3420’.

The grid view can facilitate the process of discovering the installed application because it restricts the user from scrolling through the vertical grid. Microsoft has yet to share details about the stable version Update if he plans it. If the company plans to roll out the feature, it’s unclear if the option to switch to the old look will be available. The report states that the company may also introduce default Copilot integration on the taskbar.
