“This update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users,” Apple said.

As for the iPhone, updates have been released for the iPhone XS and later.

iPad devices eligible for the update include “iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and newer and iPad mini 5th generation and later,” Apple said.

WHY SHOULD YOU UPDATE?

Updating your operating system ensures that your device has access to the latest security measures available.

“Keeping your software up-to-date is one of the most important things you can do to keep your Apple product secure,” Apple says on its website.

In fact, security updates patch various vulnerabilities, eliminating the need to spend money on antivirus software, experts say.

Conversely, not updating will make your iPhone more vulnerable to malware and bugs.

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR IOS

To manually update your iPhone, start by going to Settings, then tap General.
