Report: How Mobile Testing Strategies Embrace AI

AI has infiltrated every corner of the technology space over the past few years, and mobile testing is no exception.

Tricentis just released its State of Mobile Apps 2024 Report, where it found that 48% of testing professionals said artificial intelligence is already part of their mobile testing strategy. A further 21% plan to implement testing tools within the next six months.

The company estimates that artificial intelligence can save testers an average of 40 hours per month and save 76-100% of the company’s budget annually.

According to Tricentis, companies that don’t incorporate AI into their mobile testing strategy can face challenges like lack of talent, resources and training.

In addition to helping testers work faster, AI can help them do more. For example, the company found that those who use artificial intelligence as part of their strategy have more of their company’s information and services available via mobile than those who do not.

“For organizations looking to implement AI to improve their business objectives, testing is a fantastic place to start,” said David Colwell, vice president of AI and ML at Tricentis. “Mobile app testing is an excellent use case for artificial intelligence because not only does it have multiple benefits – including significant time and cost savings, as well as improving quality and reducing risk – but its performance can be accurately measured.”

Despite AI adoption, the report found that around half of respondents still use manual testing, although 38% believe they would save around 51-75% of their company’s budget by fully automating their testing practices.

Another finding is that only 27% of respondents believe their company’s test strategy exceeds expectations.

And finally, the majority of respondents (90%) believe they lose up to $2.49 million in lost revenue each year due to mobile phone quality issues.

For the purposes of the report, Tricentis surveyed 1,028 senior IT managers from SMBs and enterprises in December 2023.
