DENVER, Colo. (WKRC/KUSA/CNN Newsource) – A Colorado jury has awarded nearly $4 million to a woman who was arrested because police misused an app.
On January 4, 2022, Denver police were looking for a robbery suspect who was believed to have a truck with guns, cash, an iPhone and other items.
According to court documents, authorities relied on Apple’s “Find My” app to locate the thief, but were directed to the wrong address.
Ruby Johnson, a 76-year-old grandmother, was wrongfully arrested and SWAT agents searched her home. She was recently awarded a $3.76 million settlement for pain and suffering.
While lawsuits have been filed against the officers individually involved, the City of Denver is responsible for covering the cost of the damages.
