If you’re feeling nostalgic for the classic Nintendo Wii menu, you might want to check out “Wii Phone,” an Android app currently available on the Google Play Store. Created by developer KaruzoHikari, this free app turns your phone screen into a recreation of the Wii menu, complete with music, sound effects and animation.
When you first install the app, it comes with familiar programs like Mii Channel, Photo Channel, and Wii Shop Channel. Don’t get too excited because they just redirect to basic phone apps like photo gallery and contact list. If you want, you can also add links to any other app on your phone, including games. Custom icons and animations are available within the app to spice things up a bit.
The Wii Phone app might not let you hook up your old Wiimotes and play Super Mario Galaxy, but it does provide a good dose of nostalgia for anyone with fond Wii memories. Whether Nintendo will protest against the unapproved use of the Wii aesthetic remains to be seen, but for now the app is available for free to Android phone users.
