Redesigned Beeper app for Android is on the way, CEO shares details

Beeper app for Android

The instant messaging app Beeper, which tried to poke a hole in Apple’s walled garden, has shifted gears. Beeper’s co-founder and CEO Eric Migicovsky has shared details about a completely revamped version of its flagship Android app.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Migicovsky said:

We are in the final stages of testing the new Android app @onbeeper! It is a complete rework of the application. Built for speed and performance, with a complete redesign of the look and feel. You’ll be able to try it yourself soon, but here’s a quick preview (not finished yet, still WIP🏗️)

Beeper’s redesigned version comes with many new features, including an OLED black theme, local message cache, chat chatter, tablet mode (multi-pane), full message search across all chat networks, and more.

Migicovsky also shared screenshots of the app’s underdeveloped features, such as its reply thread that works with WhatsApp messages, a new search view, and the ability to add, edit, or delete chat networks from Android. The CEO did not include any details regarding the release date of the revamped version.

Beeper made the rounds in the news after its Beeper Mini app allowed Android users to access Apple’s iMessage service without using an iPhone. However, the success was short-lived and Apple quickly disabled the workaround on its end.

The messaging app tried to come up with other solutions before ending its battle against the Cupertino giant. However, Apple’s actions against the Beeper Mini have raised eyebrows and prompted an FCC commissioner to call for an investigation.
