Apple today launched a new iPhone app called Apple Sports, which gives users a one-stop place to check scores, team stats, betting odds and more across a range of major sports leagues. The app supports the NBA, NHL, NCAA, Premier League and several other leagues at launch, including MLS — the soccer league for which Apple has exclusive streaming rights.
Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1 and Serie A are also supported, with more services to be added after launch. Apple says MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL and WNBA will be available “for their upcoming seasons.”
The app’s launch comes as Apple ramps up its involvement in live sports. The company launched MLS Season Pass — its soccer streaming service — last year, and is also broadcasting Friday Night Baseball starting in 2022. The app links directly to sports streaming services, allowing users to jump directly to Apple TV Plus or other supported streaming services to watch live games.
The app itself doesn’t support betting, and Apple says users can disable betting odds if they want to.
